INTRODUCTION

The Wrestling Federation of Singapore (WFS) introduced Wrestling as a new sport to Singapore in 2008 and started to form an NSA soon after.

WFS is a great opportunity to be involved in the creation, development, and design of a new sport and NSA from the “ground up”.

OBJECTIVES

WFS’ objectives include finding and developing Singapore athletes for the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010, introducing the sport into Singapore schools, and creating and participating events and tournaments locally and regionally.

MISSION & VISION

Our mission is to rapidly establish and develop the sport of wrestling in Singapore. Our 'impossible dream' is to have WFS i) commercially viable, ii) a regional center of excellence in coaching, and iii) a leading school and community sport by 2011.

VALUES

WFS values are embodied in the Heraclitus dictum "character is fate" – you are what you do in life. WFS will promote wrestling as a sport which develops poise, enthusiasm, perseverance, respect and self-discipline in both boys and girls.

STYLES

Amateur Wrestling spans styles such as Greco-Roman, Freestyle, Women, and Beach Wrestling.

* Wrestling has always been a very popular sport throughout recorded history. The origins of wrestling can be traced back 15,000 years through cave drawings in France. Babylonian and Egyptian relief's show wrestlers using most of the holds known to the present-day sport.

* In ancient Greece, wrestling occupied a prominent place in legend and literature; wrestling competition, brutal in many aspects, was the number one sport of the Olympic Games. The ancient Romans borrowed heavily from Greek wrestling, but eliminated much of its brutality.

* During the Middle Ages (fifth century to fifteenth century) wrestling remained popular and enjoyed the patronage of many royal families, including those of France, Japan, and England.

* Early Americans brought a strong wrestling tradition with them when they came from England. The settlers also found wrestling to be popular among Native Americans.

The Wrestling Federation of Singapore has recently opened the doors to it's new facility located at 102 Upper Aljunied Road, Singapore.  To celebrate the opening we are offering FREE coaching (for a limited time) to those who register with us using the sheet attached.  For the next month we have two World Class Wrestling coaches here from the USA offering wrestling instruction at the highest level.  In addition to their numerous roles supporting the WFS establishment they have created an international belt system for wrestling in line with National Coach and 2 X Olympic Champion, Sergey Beloglazov.  Here's your chance to earn your YELLOW belt at no cost to you... 
 
The Wrestling Federation of Singapore's belt system is the first belt system to ever be adopted by a national governing body for wrestling in the world. This unique system was designed by a committee made up of national coaches from both Russia and the United States, and it has a total of 9 levels of belts ranging from the Yellow Belt and advancing to a 4th degree of Black Belt. The initial belts are based on the number of approved techniques mastered and the more advanced belts require increasingly difficult levels of success in actual competition.
 
The Yellow Belt requires that a wrestler demonstrate a mastery of 8 qualified techniques or participation in 60 training sessions. The Orange Belt requires a demonstrated mastery of 20 qualified techniques or participation in 120 training sessions.
